The Snail and the Whale

The Snail and the Whale
by Julia Donaldson

If you’ve ever had a restless sense of adventure, you’ll relate to this book.  A snail with an ‘itchy foot’ sets sail on the tail of a whale on a journey around the world.  He leaves his “black as soot” rock behind to explore icebergs and volcanoes, waves and caves, sun and storm.  When the whale gets into trouble it’s the little snail on his tail that ensures his safety.

My son found the lyrical rhymes in this book very entertaining.  The poetry fits perfectly with the stunning paintings.  Done with a variety of mediums: pencil, ink, watercolors, colored pencils and crayons; they are magnificent!  After reading this book, I’m definitely ready for a vacation myself.
