The Very Ugly Bug
by Li Pichon

A self-conscious bug questions why she doesn’t look like the other bugs.  As she learns about how their physical traits are designed to protect them, she tries her best to alter her appearance.  It’s not until her disguise puts her in danger that she realizes her looks, too serve a purpose.  After scaring off the bird that intended to eat her, she is proud to be an ugly bug.  Secure about her unconventional looks, she goes on to start her own ugly bug family.  The book could be used as a wonderful tool to explain how we’re all different and that’s a good thing!
